TapKit lets an AI assistant operate your own iPhone through the apps already on it. This guide shows the setup, a first safe test, and how to use it for a supervised mobile workflow.
What is TapKit?
TapKit is a Mac app that connects a real iPhone to an AI assistant. The assistant sees phone screenshots and can tap, swipe, and type through a hosted MCP connection. It works with the apps and accounts on your phone, so review each action before allowing a consequential step.
Prerequisites
- A Mac running macOS 14.6 or later, an iPhone, and a USB data cable.
- A TapKit account and plan. Check current pricing before subscribing.
- An AI app that supports a remote MCP server, such as the ChatGPT/Codex setup shown in the video.
Setup
- Download TapKit for Mac, move it to Applications, and open it.
- Follow the Mac app's setup: sign in, grant the requested Camera and Bluetooth access, trust the Mac on the iPhone, and complete Bluetooth pairing. Keep the Mac app running and confirm the phone appears online.
- In your AI app, add a remote MCP connection. In the ChatGPT app workflow shown in the video, go to Plugins → Create MCP app and enter this server URL:
https://mcp.tapkit.ai/mcp.
- Complete TapKit's browser sign-in and approve the connection when prompted. The MCP connection uses OAuth, so you do not need to paste an API key into the AI app.
- Ask the assistant to list connected phones, then try a small reversible task.
How to use it
- Give a precise instruction naming the phone, app, and intended result.
- Let the assistant inspect a screenshot before choosing the next tap or swipe.
- Watch the phone as it works, especially when an app changes accounts or opens a confirmation screen.
- Check the final screen yourself. For publishing, messaging, payments, and account changes, specify whether the assistant should stop before the final action.
